Thermotube 20.0/10.0 mm — transparent heat-shrinkable tube for insulation, protection and mechanical reinforcement of wires, cables, contact connections and other electrical elements. In the folded state, the inner diameter of the tube is 20 mm, and after heating it decreases to approximately 10 mm.
The transparent material allows you to see the wire, marking or connection under the tube, so the thermotube is convenient where it is important to maintain the visibility of the protected area. A piece of 1 meter can be used either as a whole or cut into pieces of the required length.
Main advantages
- Transparent color — allows you to see the element that is under the insulation.
- Shrinkage ratio 2:1 — diameter decreases from 20 to approximately 10 mm.
- Universal application — suitable for wires, cables, contacts and various electrical connections.
- Meter length — convenient to cut off the required amount of material for a specific task.
- Additional mechanical insulation — helps protect the connection from accidental contact and external influences.
- Easy installation — The tube is easily installed on the part before connection or after installation, if the design allows it.
What is heat shrink tubing used for?
Heat shrink tubing is used to create an additional insulating layer around electrical connections. After heating, the tube shrinks and fits the surface more tightly.
Thermotube 20/10 mm is suitable for:
- insulation of wire soldering points;
- protection of electrical contacts;
- insulation of terminals and connectors;
- repair and restoration of damaged cable insulation;
- protection of wire connection points from mechanical damage;
- marking and visual inspection of connections;
- manufacture and repair of electrical cables;
- automotive electrics;
- electronics and amateur radio work;
- household electrical installation work;
- DIY projects and repair of various technology.
Working principle
The heat shrink tube is made of a heat shrinkable polymer material. In the cold state, its internal diameter is 20 mm. After uniform heating, the material shrinks, and the diameter of the tube decreases to approximately 10 mm.
Thanks to this, the tube fits tightly around the cable, wire or connection, creating an additional layer of insulation and protection.
How to use the heat shrink tube correctly?
- Cut the required length of the tube, taking into account the length of the area to be protected.
- Put the tube on the wire or cable before making the connection. If the connection is already made, the tube can be installed, provided that it can be pulled through the appropriate area.
- Place the tube in the center of the connection so that after shrinkage it evenly covers the protected area.
- Heat the tube using a heat gun or other suitable source of warm air.
- Heat the surface evenly, gradually moving the hot air flow around the tube.
- Wait for complete shrinkage and let the material cool.
It is not recommended to overheat the same area. Uniform heating allows for accurate shrinkage without damaging the material.
How to choose the size?
When choosing a thermotube, it is necessary to take into account the diameter of the part on which it is installed. When folded, the tube has an internal diameter of 20 mm, and after shrinkage — approximately 10 mm.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | Heat shrink tube |
| Color | Transparent |
| Inner diameter before shrinking | 20.0 mm |
| Diameter after shrinking | 10.0 mm |
| Shrinkage ratio | 2:1 |
| Length | 1 meter |
Where is the transparent thermal tube 20/10 mm used?
Due to its large diameter and the ability to shrink approximately twice, the tube is suitable for protecting relatively thick wires, cables, contact groups and other elements. The transparent version is especially convenient for electrical installation, when it is necessary to maintain the possibility of visual control of the connection.
Thermotube will be useful when repairing electronics, automotive wiring, making cable assemblies, installing battery systems, repairing power tools and performing various works in the workshop.
